The School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University (MSU) is a key partner in the BWC direct support program. MSU has a long and distinguished history of research-based direct support. This includes collaboration with law enforcement in the early days of community- and problem-solving policing and extends through current direct support initiatives addressing violent crime, crime analysis, data-driven problem solving, substance use disorder, and BWCs. Major efforts include providing direct support to Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), the Drug Market Intervention (DMI) program, and BJA’s Smart Suite direct support program. The principals involved in the BWC program, Jeff Rojek, Heather Perez, and Ed McGarrell, have experience serving as action researchers and local research partners in a variety of communities, organizational settings, and various OJP-grant funded programs.
